The history of teNeues began in 1931 in Krefeld, Germany. Founded by Dr. Heinz Teneues, the family home was first a small printing house, destroyed during the Second World War and then rebuilt in Kempen. In 1951, the founder's eldest son, Dr. Manfred, became Managing Director and introduced the first calendars as well as a collection of artistic illustrations and greeting cards, hand in hand with the growing printing industry. Continued expansion, in 1977, led to teNeues Verlag, established as a parallel branch, and an international debut with the New York-based teNeues Publishing Company, followed by subsidiaries in London and Paris. Over time, teNeues diversified and offered stationery, office supplies and museum products. In 1995, it was Sebastian teNeues' turn to take reins of the family enterprise, developing the book category, which was briefly introduced several years earlier. The teNeues publishing house is now a household name, offering generously illustrated books translated into several languages. Themes such as design, modern art, fashion, architecture, gastronomy, travel, popular culture or even luxury and photography are featured. Such publications that showcase works of renowned artists such as Elliott Erwitt, contributed greatly to the brand's reputation. What's more? TeNeues also created several collaborative corporate book projects: The BMW Book, Cartier, Chopard, Bogner, Swarovski and The Audi Book.
