Looking at their ultra-classic designs cut from the finest leather, Aspinal of London could easily pass for a century-old design house, claiming a rich heritage and understated luxury.
A pleasant surprise to discover that it was only founded in 2001, proving that high-end leather goods still have a bright future. Launched by Iain Burton and initially specialising in luxury stationery exclusively sold online, the brand soon ventured into handbags. Building on its initial success, it gradually extended its range to become one of the leading modern British luxury brands. And as if the design house's rapid rise to the top isn't enough, its creative director's story is just as impressive. Born in Ukraine, Mariya Dykalo was passionate about fashion from a young age. Impressed by her mother's style, she started to take sewing classes at the age of 13 and finished her education with a master's in art and design at the Lviv National Academy of Arts. Arriving in England, she improved her English by taking courses at Chichester College. There, she came across an ad for a design internship at Aspinal of London, marking the start of a prosperous career. Her love of colour, classic yet feminine silhouettes and her ability to create a fresh new aesthetic while retaining the label's signature style made her rise through the ranks at an incredible speed. In 2013, seven years after starting at the label, she was appointed creative director. In 2018, she expanded her team by hiring a new couture designer, Giles Deacon.
With collections including Mayfair, Portobello, London, Marylebone, the Hat Box and the Trunk, the design house already boasts several iconic pieces that have captivated many influencers and renowned personalities such as Kate Middleton. The classics have never been so modern.
