Adored for its Dolce Vita lifestyle, Italy has also (and above all) established itself as an absolute reference in fashion. From iconic Maisons to technical labels, unique expertise is passed down. A journey into the heart of six renowned Italian brands that shape the rich and bold landscape of this beautiful country.
From Milan's creative buzz to Rome's splendour and Ravarino's technical labs, Italy doesn't just design clothes. Its remarkable heritage is enriched over time, built on a perfect balance between artisanal expertise and a constant quest for innovation.
Prada, the avant-garde
It all began in 1913 in Milan. Prada is, first and foremost, the story of two brothers, Mario and Martino Prada. Specialising in leather goods, the House was soon recognized for the exceptional quality of its leathers and its artisanal savoir-faire.
The real turning point came in 1978 when Miuccia Prada, Mario’s granddaughter, took the helm. With her bold, avant-garde vision, she gave the brand new and essential momentum, driven particularly by an innovative material: nylon. Since then, Prada has become an undisputed luxury reference, radiating far beyond Italy.
Prada's Aesthetic: Conceptual fashion that doesn't follow trends. Prada experiments: nylon jackets rub shoulders with minimalist silk mini-dresses, structured leather bags, and elegant shoes. It's a wardrobe that plays with contrasts: a touch of retro-chic, sensuality, and a hint of rigor, but always with a touch of innovative magic.
Three Iconic Prada Creations: The Galleria bag, the brushed leather loafers with thick soles, and the Re-Edition nylon bag.
Prada's Signature: Its iconic triangle logo, which appears everywhere, and Saffiano leather for its leather goods.
Miu Miu, the rebellious intellectual
With Miu Miu, Miuccia Prada unleashes her creativity with total independence. Since 1993, the brand, initially presented as Prada's little sister, has been shaping a wardrobe for conscious and emancipated women. The brand quickly attracts attention: its silhouettes are much more colorful and rebellious than Prada's.
Today, Miu Miu shines on its own. It is at Paris Fashion Week that it unveils its collections each season: this choice provides the perfect stage to express a fashion that is ever more free, conscious, and bold.
Miu Miu's Aesthetic: It is the symbol of contemporary femininity, one that is spontaneous, individual, and engaged. Intellectual yet sensual, Miu Miu blends retro style and raw elegance through creative pieces that play with layering.
Three Iconic Miu Miu Creations: The micro-skirt, the strapped ballet flats, and the Wander bag.
Miu Miu's Signature: Its recognizable quilted leather and raw-edged finishes.
Valentino, the romantic one
Valentino, now one of the most iconic fashion houses, owes its creation and success to a meeting: that of Valentino Garavani and Giancarlo Giammeti. Founded in Rome in 1960, it dressed the icons of the era such as Elizabeth Taylor, Jane Fonda, and Grace Kelly.
In 1975, the first ready-to-wear collection was presented in Paris. The brand has remained in the French capital ever since, unveiling its Haute Couture and womenswear collections there each season.
Subsequently, Valentino experienced several major creative turning points. In 2008, Pierpaolo Piccioli and Maria Grazia Chiuri took over artistic direction, before Pierpaolo Piccioli remained solely at the head of creation in 2016. After more than 15 years shaping the image of the House, he bid farewell in 2024. Valentino opens a new chapter with the arrival of Alessandro Michele.
Valentino's aesthetic: A feminine and romantic elegance that embodies the Dolce Vita. Valentino plays with volumes, patterns, and transparency. From precious details structuring the creations to monochrome silhouettes, the House has developed a unique, bold, and innovative aesthetic.
Three iconic Valentino creations: The "White" collection, Valentino Red dresses, and Rockstud pumps.
Valentino's signature: Valentino Red, the House's emblem symbolizing feminine strength and flowers.
Emporio Armani, Italian Chic
A major Italian name, the Armani group was founded in 1975 by Giorgio Armani. Reflecting Italian chic in all its forms, the Armani company boasts a wealth of expertise. Accessories, jewellery, fragrances, home furnishings... The couturier has conquered the world of fashion as well as the art of living.
Following the success of his main label, Giorgio Armani wanted to create more contemporary fashion with a streetwear vibe, aimed at a young, urban audience: this is how Emporio Armani was founded in 1981.
In addition to the Armani Beauty collection, it is through Armani/Privé, the Haute Couture line founded in 2005, that the couturier signs his most sophisticated olfactory creations, as evidenced by xxx.
The Emporio Armani aesthetic: Urban fashion that focuses on both comfort and elegance. The brand designs a complete, everyday wardrobe where fluid materials are combined with structured leather, and where sporty cuts coexist with refined pieces.
Three iconic Emporio Armani creations: Leather jackets, the crossbody bag, and the suit.
The Emporio Armani signature: Its famous winged logo with horizontal bands, inlaid with Giorgio Armani's initials.
Stone Island, the Passionate Choice
Set sail for Northern Italy, specifically Ravarino. 1982 marks a major milestone in the history of this commune: Stone Island is born at the instigation of Massimo Osti with Tela Stella, a technical military canvas. Its name and badge symbolize its creator's passion for the nautical world.
In 1983, he was joined by Carlo Rivetti. Together, they worked hand in hand with a common goal: to revolutionize fashion and meet the changing needs of those who wear it. The challenge was (very quickly) won: materials were pushed beyond their primary use, new textiles were developed, and garments became ultra-high performance. Today, the brand champions the voice of a committed and visionary community.
Stone Island marked the beginning of a new era. It reflects the Italian's avant-garde spirit and his constant innovation in textile research.
The Stone Island aesthetic: Stone Island is unique. The brand doesn't just offer an aesthetic wardrobe; it's technical, utilitarian, and military, with function dictating form. Its experimental vision, in terms of both technicality and properties, treatments, and dyes, pushes the boundaries of clothing.
Three iconic Stone Island creations: The Tela Stella jacket, the Ice Jacket, and the quarter-zip sweater.
The Stone Island signature: The iconic removable badge depicting a compass rose, found on the left sleeve, and innovative materials.
Bulgari, the Roman spirit
Italy is not only renowned for its fashion, but jewelry also holds a significant place in the country's craftsmanship. Founded in 1884 in Rome by the Greek goldsmith Sotirios Voúlgaris, Bulgari embodies the art of detail and Italian excellence through its jewelry creations.
In 1992, the Maison ventured into perfumery, drawing inspiration from the excellence of its high jewelry. Following the example of its jewelry, Bulgari designs precious cases that contain sophisticated fragrances.
Bulgari's Aesthetic: The Maison is recognized for its meticulous craftsmanship and captivating color combinations, directly inspired by its hometown. Bulgari innovates in a very strict field, shaping a unique and inimitable style. Rings, necklaces, bracelets, earrings, and perfumes are adorned with geometric shapes, antique motifs, and play with volumes.
Three Iconic Bulgari Creations: The Serpenti jewelry watch, the B.zero1 ring, and the Eau Parfumée au Thé Vert fragrance.
Bulgari's Signature: Its legendary Serpenti motif and its colorful gemstones.
