Soft matte, brown makeup, bold lips... Discover the makeup trends to embrace for facing the coldest (and grayest) days of the year with beauty!
Summer has said its goodbyes, making way for autumn. It's finally time to take stock of the trends observed during Fashion Weeks and red carpets or on social media that will define the coming months.
Alongside fashion and its new trends, the makeup also reveals new looks, featuring intense reds and pinks, with a touch of glitter, not to mention the key color that we embrace on both eyes and lips, brown. Focus.
The soft matte makeup is captivating
Always on the lookout for a glow, this season the glass skin, a skincare trend from Korea, makes way for a soft matte finish.
Far from the classic matte effect, this makeup seeks a subtle, soft, and velvety matte look, almost natural. To achieve the perfect soft matte makeup, it’s important to have well-hydrated skin to avoid dryness. It’s also essential to remember that the goal is not to overload the skin, to maintain its glow. Finding the right balance is key.
Before applying makeup, it is recommended to use a primer to control shine and smooth the skin texture. Then, choose products with a velvety finish like the foundation from Nars and add a touch of translucent powder from Clinique.
A skin with blurred imperfections and controlled highlights, but without highlighter! It's possible to add a subtle warmth, the powder duo from Victoria Beckham will be perfect with its matte finish. On the lips we'll complete the look with a nude lipstick for example.
The return of brown makeup
The key color for the upcoming months is definitely brown! Highly appreciated for its natural effect, this shade will perfectly warm up the face during cooler days.
Omnipresent in the 90s, brown makeup is still popular today. Hailey Bieber and her 'brownie glazed lips', Lily Rose Depp, and Kim Kardashian: these celebrities have embraced it. As for brands, brown can be found in all products, from mascara to lipstick, including eyeshadows and pencils.
We will therefore use warm brown tones as suggested by Yves Saint Laurent with its eyeshadow palette. Chocolate mascara, frosted brown pencil, espresso eyeliner, gloss... Don't be afraid to play with depths, textures, and contrasts.
Sophisticated yet bold, brown is suitable for both daytime makeup with softer shades and evening looks with more intensity.
Bold lips, intense lips
The stars of the season? Lips. All eyes will be on them over the coming months, thanks to the bold lips trend and its deep shades. Intense reds, deep burgundies, raspberries, and even plums: lips are expressing themselves fully, with complete freedom. On the rest of the face, makeup will be minimalist, so as not to steal the show.
Major cosmetics brands such as Lancôme and Clarins, as well as fashion houses like Givenchy, are unveiling seductive shades and ultra-pigmented products for captivating lips. Korean skincare brands are obviously joining in, with Rom&nd promising makeup that lasts all day long with its lip inks.
Rosy cheeks, the perfect glow blush
As a nod to the arrival of the cold weather, rosy cheeks are not yet ready to say goodbye. At Burberry and Alaïa, the models showcased a fresh and radiant complexion with a healthy glow, as if kissed by a cool breeze on a winter morning. While it's hard to do without pink, for an even bolder look in the coming months, the berry shade will be a hit: a deep (and luscious) red-purple reminiscent of red fruits.
Play with the blush! It can be applied only to the center of the cheek for a classic makeup look or on the cheekbones and bridge of the nose for a sun-kissed effect, and can also be blended out to the temples.
Powder blushes should be applied with a brush, while liquid textures such as Nars Afterglow Liquid Blush and Laura MercierTinted Cream Blush can be applied with your finger.
For a fresh, successful look, the rest of the complexion should be light and the lips natural or slightly pink.
Icy gaze, cool and frosted eyeshadows
Eyes break the ice and have fun: this autumn-winter, we seek a mysterious, fresh, and captivating look, day and night.
Cool shades like violet or sky blue from the Victoria Beckham stick and shiny finishes like the iridescent eyeshadow from Clinique and the glitter from Si Si La Paillette are more than welcome. Apply on the entire eyelid, in the inner corner, or along the lash line.
It's also the revival of gray, inseparable from 90s looks. This year, it has been embraced by certain personalities like Jenna Ortega and brands like Tory Burch. It can be worn in all its possible variations, from frosty light gray to the deepest shades, with glitter or matte finishes, offering a soft or more dramatic look depending on your desires.
Eyeliner mania
Criticized in 2024 by Generation Alpha, eyeliner remains an essential in every makeup bag, and this season proves it once again. Classic lines seen on Dua Lipa and Leighton Meester, more graphic at Giorgio Armani, ultra-fine and extended at Coperni or in an unapologetic oversized version at Jil Sander: eyeliner is far from done!
The trends are unanimous: this season, the complexion should be natural and soft, enhanced by bold touches on the eyes and mouth, not to mention rosy cheeks and their irresistible charm. Yes, the sky is getting grayer and the sun is hiding more often, but makeup promises to reveal its (and your) best features.
