These are the ingredients at the heart of the scalp exfoliating scrub from New York-based haircare brand, John Masters Organics. Together, they detoxify and purify the scalp without irritating it. The result: soothed and strengthened hair.

1. Use as a pre-shampoo on wet hair

2. Add a small amount of product to your fingertips and massage into the scalp, use more product if necessary

3. Start applying from your hairline and work your way to the middle of scalp

4. Continue from the back of your head at the bottom and work your way up. For longer hair, tilt the head forward to apply to the back of the head and the crown

5. Leave in for three to five minutes.

6. Rinse thoroughly and follow with your shampoo and conditioner

7. Use every other day for a few weeks to reduce flaking. Once you have achieved the desired result, use once a week
