It all began in 1933 when, on retiring, the tennis legend, René Lacoste, established his self-titled brand. Inspired by polo players' shirts, he created his signature model: a short-sleeved jersey shirt, cut in a breathable, lightweight fabric, with a ribbed knit collar, enhancing the design and protecting players' necks from the sun. Its code name? The 12.12 polo. Its insignia? A green crocodile (René Lacoste's nickname) embroidered on the chest.
