ELVIS PRESLEY: ADOPT THE KING'S LOOKS

By Sonia Amirat | July 12, 2022

Screened outside the competition at the most recent edition of the Cannes Film Festival, Baz Luhrmann's Elvis, embodied onscreen by Austin Butler, retraces the sulphurous career of the American singer. It's the moment to look back at some of the looks of this incredible icon who was known as “The King”.

Slicked back hair, casual looks and extravagant outfits, this rock n' roll king's look is unlike any other. His bold style of dress developed over time; the King started out with a relatively serious style. At the beginning, Elvis Presley's uniform was made up of fitted jackets and short-sleeved polos with a popped collar. It was a minimalist signature that he abandoned as his career took off.

Wool bomber jacket - Givenchy / Straight-leg recycled polyester trousers - Courrèges / Cotton towelling polo shirt - Sunspel / Leather loafers - Prada

For his film Blue Hawaii released in 1961, the musician became an actor and discovered a passion for floral prints and Hawaiian shirts. That was before turning to leather looks and becoming the sex symbol of a generation.

And what is more “Elvis" than the mythical white jumpsuit - fitted and rhinestoned? A true pioneer, this artist was unafraid of dressing differently, never hesitating to pair plunging necklines with aviator sunglasses. This prodigal son from Memphis was a revelation who dared to wear more and more colour, from fuchsia to periwinkle. Still today, he is not just the king of rock but an uncontested icon when it comes to fashion.
