CHARLES JEFFREY LOVERBOY Men
A graduate in Fashion Design from London's Central Saint Martins, the young prodigy, Charles Jeffrey launched his brand in 2015: Charles Jeffrey LOVERBOY. To finance his studies, this night owl organised evening events at London's salubrious VF Dalston club. Very quickly, he was noticed by a talent scout, Lulu Kennedy, offering him the opportunity to present his creations with Fashion East MAN. A collaboration that marked the beginning of his rise to fame on the British fashion landscape. He was later rewarded with an Emerging Designer Award in the Menswear category at the British Fashion Awards in 2017 as well as an LVMH prize nomination. But the road to success was sometimes fraught with pitfalls for Charles Jeffrey. His parents split up when he was young, and he grew up in a Scotland that wasn't very accepting of his homosexuality. The designer drew strength from these experiences and used his collections as a vehicle to address themes related to suffering, anxiety, tolerance and the need for recognition. Truly becoming a spokesperson for London's youth, Charles Jeffrey wants LOVERBOY to offer a safe space to those isolated from the norm because of how they feel, what they look like or the way they choose to express themselves. Inspired by Gareth Pugh's boldness, Jean Paul Gaultier's runway shows and Vivienne Westwood's tailoring, Charles Jeffrey LOVERBOY offers exciting collections punctuated with graphic prints, colours and complex detailing, perfectly reflecting its founder's classical training in Haute Couture. Surrounded by artist friends, drag queens and the gay community, all contribute to his projects, Charles Jeffrey's ambition is to design clothing that, in his words, makes you dream. Tartan kilts, grunge-style boots, slogan sweatshirts and graffiti-stamped denim pieces shape the label's temperamental, rebellious aesthetic. Charles Jeffrey LOVERBOY once again shares his thoughts on society through his Spring-Summer 2020 show, deeply immersed in pop culture and the punk phenomenon of the ‘70s. Rejecting traditional gender codes, Charles Jeffrey dresses his models in silk dresses and fishnet stockings as well as striped outfits and jackets with arty prints. A pink-collared shiny leather raincoat along with a studded beret are among some of the collection's highlights. > View more
