CANADA GOOSE KISSES FUR GOODBYE
Just like in Scrabble, there are words in the fashion world that are worth more than others. This year's winner would have to be "eco-responsible": today, it's becoming the guiding principle behind a number of heavy-hitting brands and parent groups in the process of aligning their values with those of a greener world.
Frequently singled-out for its significant ecological footprint, the use of animal skins and pelts (and the gruesome treatment they imply) is pushing the fashion industry towards a long, hard look in the mirror. As the latest arrival to the clean-future club, Canada Goose has made an impressive commitment in renouncing its famous coyote-fur linings. "We are committing to a future without fur," the brand announced on its social network accounts — "In 2021, we will end the purchase of all fur and cease manufacturing with fur in 2022." It's a declaration that echoes one already made this past April with the brand's "Fur Buy-Back," a program inviting customers to return the fur lining of their Canada Goose products so that the recycled material can be used to make new products.
NGO Humane Canada congratulated the decision, agreeing that "this is a significant step forward toward building a more humane and sustainable world. We applaud Canada Goose's commitment to end the use of all fur by late 2022 and the leadership position they are taking in their industry."
