DAWEI Women

Dawei's style is modern Parisian, viewed through the eyes of a Chinese designer. Born in Dalian in the Liaonine province, Dawei Sun began his training at the École des Beaux-Arts, then joined the École de la Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne, graduating in 2005. He learnt about the workings of the fashion industry at prestigious houses such as Balenciaga, John Galliano and Lolita Lempicka. In 2010, he launched the label Belle Ninon with fellow ECSCP graduate Ling Liu, and they were both appointed co-artistic directors at Cacharel. In 2011, he won the ELLE New Talent Fashion Award. With his cultivated experience, Dawei built his own vision of fashion and founded his eponymous label, DAWEI, in 2016, based in Paris. When asked why he chose the French capital to launch his brand, he said: "I find inspiration in being surrounded by different forms of art, and Paris is the perfect place to foster new ideas." The designer now divides his time between his studio in the chic Saint-Honoré quarter and Beijing, where he closely supervises his label's production process. This cultural tandem influence the aesthetic of his collections, characterised by a minimalist urban appeal with a romantic side. Being noticed for his work, in 2019, he joined the official programme for Paris Fashion Week and was chosen as one of the finalists of the ANDAM prize.
Dawei is not done making headlines. For his Spring-Summer 2020 line, the label presents a journey through time and space in a quest for unique beauty... dresses are draped in romantic voluminous layers, while striped and asymmetrical silhouettes dominate the catwalk. As for colours, the citrusy shades enhance the immaculate overall look. Dawei's show ends with pieces made from a blue laminated fabric, proving his mastery of contemporary elegance. > View more
