DRIES VAN NOTEN
A household name in Belgian and international fashion, Dries Van Noten is one of the famous "Anvers Six," otherwise known as the first wave of couturiers who made Belgium the epicenter of avant-garde and visionary textile creation. Born in Anvers in 1958 to a family of tailors going back at least two generations, Dries Van Noten studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Anvers before working as an independent design consultant and launching his own collection in 1986. In 2017, nearly three decades later, Dries Van Noten presented his hundredth fashion show. In the interim, his revolutionary aesthetic — utterly free from the codes of its time and resolutely artistic — has come to be known all over the world, and has been honored time and time again. How could we forget, for example, the splendid exhibition at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris in 2014, followed a year later by his distinction as Officer in the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, and the 2020 CFDA award as International Stylist of the Year. Equally memorable was his 2019 collaboration with Christian Lacroix, which brought us an unforgettably feminine collection that we dream about to this day. In pieces that fuse beauty, craftsmanship, and functionality with prints, materials, textures, and colors, Dries Van Noten has invented a style that's as unique as it is timeless. Together or separately, the looks are easy to incorporate into our wardrobe and leave place for self-expression. Because allure, really, is all about what's on the inside, as the couturier himself has said.
