Founded in 2002 by two Canadians, Andrew Reddyhoff and Marie-Claude de Billy, Crocs has built itself a solid reputation. A vegan shoe brand for men, women and children, Crocs stands out for its technicity and practicality. Made of Croslite, a light, durable organic and mouldable resin, Crocs are resistant to microbes and sweat. The brand name was no accident, referencing this innovative Croslite material. In 2003, after the brand was acquired by three Americans, Lyndon ‘Duke' Hanson, Scott Seamans and George Boedecker, the brand starting selling its first pairs. Initially popular in the hospital sector due to their extreme comfort and ease of wear, the shoes quickly found a broader audience and the adoration of all, both young and old. The phenomenon expanded all the way to Hollywood, where movie stars likes Al Pacio, Teri Hatcher and Jack Nicholson slipped into their own pairs. Over the top, relaxed, colourful - Crocs are described in many different ways and are now sold around the world. In 2020, the brand took its revenge and made its mark on the fashion scene. On social networks, notably TikTok, the brand grew in popularity in just a few days, targeting a new generation. From that moment on, Crocs were everywhere, even on the red carpets of events like the Oscars, where the musician Questlove wore a golden pair. Since its creation, Crocs has become a fixture of the fashion landscape, even collaborating with major fashion houses: Christopher Kane in 2016 and Balenciaga in 2018 and 2022, on a Spring-Summer runway which started a major buzz with heeled Crocs Madame.
