Fashion today is no longer just green, it can also be blue. Huge diving enthusiasts and deeply concerned about seabed conservation, the French designers, Marion Ruilhat and Sébastien Fredeau created the Apnée brand in 2017. After first meeting at the Lycée Louis le Grand in Paris, the duo regrouped in London to embark on their careers. They headed for the city and initially worked in strategic and financial consulting. Several years later, the men's swimwear label was launched. Behind this project was an aspiration to produce high-quality essentials with timeless designs, featuring fun prints, inspired by maritime themes. Marion's sister, Pauline who had experience as a stylist with several large French labels, took care of design. As a European brand, production is in a factory in the north of Portugal, near Porto. Each swim piece comes in its own cool waterproof pouch, just like a diving accessory. A slick move. But the designers quickly realised they wanted to expand. Not content with just respecting human-ecological Okeo-Tex standards with pieces made from an ultra-resistant fabric, developed especially for the brand in Italy and Portugal, the duo wanted to offer an eco-conscious swimwear collection. The Océan collection was born. Created in partnership with Seaqual, an organisation that transforms the plastic waste collected in fishermen's nets, the range features eco-responsible swimwear, produced from 100% recycled polyester fibre. Better still, the brand hopes to be able to offer all its collections in recycled fibre by 2020. And that's not all... Apnée also donates one euro for each garment sold to the Surfrider association, dedicated to ocean preservation.
