Intellectual, chic, elegant, free... the adjectives are plentiful to define the style and the woman Prada. For over a hundred years, the Milanese house has enjoyed unwavering success. Its secret weapon? Miuccia Prada. Granddaughter of one of the founders, this political science graduate took the reins of the Italian brand in 1978 and transformed the leather goods maker into a fashion giant. Launched in 1913 by Mario and Martino Prada, under the name Fratelli Prada, the brand originally aimed to sell leather goods. Quickly, Miuccia Prada leads a small revolution within the brand. As early as 1984, she introduces a new concept that, although misunderstood at its inception, is still one of the brand's biggest successes today: nylon. Made in a factory specialized in military parachutes, this material, which is the opposite of the luxury of the time, takes a few seasons to establish itself before becoming a bestseller. Encouraged by her husband and the brand's CEO, Patrizio Bertelli, Miuccia Prada then ventured into ready-to-wear in 1988. The idea proves to be wise once again, and the brand's growth continues to flourish. Strongly linked to the arts, the brand's history would not be complete without mentioning the Fondazione Prada, a complex located on the outskirts of Milan where culture is celebrated in all its forms. For the Spring-Summer 2021 season and the first Prada collection under the joint direction of Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons, the look of the Prada woman has once again been rejuvenated. A fusion of the two creators' universes, the collection skillfully blends outfits that are both chic and casual, as well as exceptional pieces like this enveloping cape, which will give a unique flair to all wardrobes. Finally, the central element of Prada's DNA, nylon, is once again in the spotlight, through the Re-Nylon range launched in 2019. The idea: pieces made from regenerated nylon, obtained from plastic waste that pollutes the oceans and fabric scraps. This line, which comes in the form of ready-to-wear pieces, shoes, or bags, will add a cool and retro touch to your looks.
