What led one of the world's most brilliant stem cell experts to launch his own skincare brand? The answer: his wish to help more people. Right from when he first started out in medicine, in 1988, the German Professor, Augustinus Bader was always interested in skin tissues. After working in medical centres in Switzerland, the United States and China, the doctor found the defining subject of his career -- healing burns. Although the skin tends to regenerate itself when cut, this is not the case when it is burned. An enigma the scientist has been trying to solve for over 30 years now, having produced over two hundred patented technologies. Their aim is to train the skin to regenerate itself from the inside, without needing to undergo a skin graft, a costly process that is not entirely free of risk. All of this development is evidently pricey. This is where cosmetics enter the picture. In 2010, Augustinus Bader was approached by Charles Rosier, a businessman known for his extensive investments in the field of research. He had a simple idea. He asked the Leipzig University Professor to adapt his findings towards the general public so he could finance more clinical trials for his research. After two years, following highly complimentary feedback for his prototypes, the scientist decided to take the plunge. In 2018, his eponymous brand was launched, quickly becoming a flourishing success. His range of products were particularly popular with celebrities, catching the eye of Victoria Beckham who asked him to develop her skincare range. As true beauty is above all about sharing, 10% of the brand's profits are donated to the Augustinus Bader Foundation, which is dedicated to help finance the hospitalisation and rehabilitation of specific patients.
