Diffusion lines can sometimes be a simple way to reach a broader clientele. But for Miuccia Prada, they are an opportunity to express a completely different viewpoint. In the face of her family's fashion house success, the Italian designer created Miu Miu in 1992. The younger label puts an emphasis on simpler and more spontaneous style. Although the brand's aesthetics are inspired by the designer's own wardrobe, its name is just as personal, a nickname given by her family.
Often considered as "Prada's little sister", Miu Miu is just as accomplished. In 1994, the fashion industry acknowledged her achievements by awarding her with the prestigious Best Designer Award at the CFDA Awards ceremony. In 1995, she organised her very first show in New York, sending Kate Moss down the runway at the height of her fame. Shows then followed in London and Milan before finally laying roots in Paris in 2006. And the designer's ambassadors are just as prestigious as those of Prada. Maggie Gyllenhaal, Hailey Stenfeld, Chloë Sevigny... the designer loves to be surrounded by a string of indie actresses to convey the brand's essence.
As intellectual as its parent company, Miu Miu also attempts a cultural incursion. Since 2012, the label had been presenting its Women's Tales at the Venice International Film Festival. Directed by women, these short films offer a new feminine perspective on cinema. Key contributors include: Agnès Varda, Ana Duvernay, Chloë Sevigny, Zoe Cassavetes, Naomi Kawase and Dakota Fanning.
In parallel with womenswear, a men's collection was launched in 1999. A tribute to fashion for young men. The adventure was discontinued in 2008, after almost ten successful years.> View more
