"We believe in irreverent luxury, we believe colors can't clash and that your home should make you happy." This is the joyful and humorous manifesto of the Jonathan Adler brand. Although its founder, Jonathan Adler, is now considered one of mainstays of design, his road to success wasn't always easy. He first discovered his passion for pottery, at twelve, during summer camp. And despite studying law later on he continued to pursue his hobby and develop his ceramist skills. His strong and original creations at that time didn't convince his pottery teacher who encouraged him to become a lawyer instead. In 1990, Jonathan Adler moved to New York and began working in the film industry. Three years later, the young American quit and decided to make a living from his passion by founding his eponymous brand. In only one year, his pots and vases were displayed in the famous Barneys store, inspired by the 18th century ceramics of the Sèvres factory, contemporary art or pop culture. Soon after, other decorative accessories followed. During a trip to Peru, the designer became fascinated with local crafts and South American textiles' ethnic style, inspiring him to produce cushions, plaids and carpets. In 1998, he opened his first boutique at the heart of trendy Soho in New York City. Today the brand offers a complete range of products for the home, from furniture to lamps, rugs to pottery and other decorative pieces distinguished by their refined aesthetic and eclectic influences. A Potter, designer, interior decorator and also author, Jonathan Adler expresses his glamorous and bold artistic vision through his numerous works and collaborations with other brands such as Lacoste, H&M, Uniqlo, Clinique or Paperless Post.
