Born in Turin, nothing predestined Maria Nielli to open one of the biggest couture design houses in the world. Placed in an atelier after her father's death, the young 14-year-old ended up in Paris to join her sister, a haberdasher. The talented designer immediately began to work at Raffin, a prestigious label at the time. She worked there for twenty years until she was promoted to partner Becoming a widow in 1909, she formed a relentless duo with her son. He persuaded her to establish her own couture design house, which she finally did in 1932. Located in Paris' chic 2nd arrondissement, the label boasted a simple and minimalistic elegance, carried out throughout the years by renowned creative directors. Jules-François Crahay, Gérard Pipart, Olivier Theyskens, Peter Copping, Guillaume Henry... the label attracted the most cutting-edge designers.
In September 2018, the couple behind Botter took the helm at Nina Ricci, adored for its iconic and world-renowned designs such as the fragrance L'Air du Temps and the Crocus suit. Hailing from Amsterdam, Rushemy Botter and Lisi Herrebrugh met in the Dutch capital as children. At the end of their teens, Botter attended the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp, while Herrebrugh attended the Amsterdam Fashion Institute. Based on Rushemy Botter's final year collection, the self-titled ready-to-wear menswear brand soon gained recognition and notably won the Grand Prize at the 33rd Hyères Festival (2018).> View more
