With a reservedness inversely proportional to their storytelling style, Namacheko's designs have carried them to the forefront of men's fashion. Carried by brothers Dilan and Lezan Lurr, the label's DNA has everything to do with that of its founders. Born in Iraq, the two creators-to-be immigrated to Sweden with their parents in 1997. Pursuing studies in civil engineering and, for Lezan, art history, the designers launched Namacheko in 2015. It all started with Dilan, who had been in the process of publishing a book on their hometown, Kirkouk. Along the way, the project also became a photography exhibition, including a short film and several garments that effected a dialogue between life in Kirkouk and in Sweden. Presented in a small Parisian gallery during the Fall-Winter 2017 season, it caught the attention of retailer The Broken Arm, who bought the body of work in its entirety. The brand had begun, with Dilan taking on artistic direction and Lezan acting as CEO. The following season, nineteen distributors were present to buy up the new collection, presented in an installation created by Dover Street Market in New York. Based in the Belgian city of Anvers, since its founding the label has been associated with important industry actors, such as Gysemans Clothing Group, who also works with the likes of Raf Simons and Dries Van Noten.
The look might be a simple one at first glance, but upon further inspection it becomes clear that here, details make all the difference. Inspired by art in general and cinema in particular, Dilan Lurr offers up minimalist pieces punctuated by artsy touches. From buttons inspired by Barbara Hepworth, lines reminiscent of Joan Miro's or Alexander Calder, and prints inspired by Van Gogh's "Starry Night" and Edvard Munch's spectral figures, each of Namacheko's pieces is brimming with clever references and sleek style.> View more
