Eco-friendly sneakers have bright prospects ahead of them. With many designers spending decades in search of the definitive shoe combining style and comfort, the time for an organic sneaker is now. And the ultimate conquest? A biodegradable shoe. An environmental-fashion feat in several designers' line of vision, including Veja and Rombaut. The latest newcomer to the green fashion scene is the Italian, Yatay (named after the Butia Yatay, one of the largest palm trees in South America) and the label may well be taking up the challenge faster than you might think. Launched at the end of 2018 in Italy, the brand was set up by the Milanese entrepreneur, Umberto de Marco. His background? A family-run business specialising in synthetic leather. His goal? To create sneakers that are as natural as possible while still looking cool. The result is Neven, the fruit of two years of research and development, produced by hand on the other side of the Alps. Available in high-top and low-cut models, this gender-neutral sneaker has a simple style and comes in a range of low-key shades including, white, black, beige, forest green and navy blue. Its plus point? It is cut from 75% eco-friendly leather: 50% is produced from corn and the remaining 25% comes from recycled plastic. Organic cotton, polyester produced from recycled plastic bottles, organic hemp... the materials used are wide and varied, having one thing in common, sustainability.
Since positive energy inspires, the Italian brand is going even further in its quest for a natural world. In partnership with the One Tree Planted organisation, the label has made a commitment to plant one tree for each pair of sneakers sold. Swag has never been so green.> View more
