Faced with the meteoric success of the family house Prada, the Italian designer decided to found, in 1992, Miu Miu. Younger, the label emphasizes more naive, more spontaneous creations. And while the brand's aesthetic is inspired by the designer's wardrobe, its name is also just as personal as it takes the nickname given to the designer by her family. Often considered "the little sister of Prada," Miu Miu is nonetheless just as accomplished. As early as 1994, it was recognized by the fashion industry, which awarded it the prestigious Best Designer Award at the CFDA Awards ceremony. In 1995, she organized her very first fashion show in New York, featuring a Kate Moss at the height of her fame. This was followed by shows in London and Milan before a permanent installation in Paris starting in 2006. And the house's muses are just as prestigious as those of the Prada brand. Maggie Gyllenhaal, Hailey Stenfeld, Chloë Sevigny... the designer enjoys surrounding herself with indie actresses to highlight the brand's identity. As intellectual as the parent company, Miu Miu has also attempted an incursion into culture. Since 2012, the brand has indeed presented its Women's Tales at the Venice International Film Festival. Made by women, these short films aim to shed new and feminine light on cinema. Notable participants include: Agnès Varda, Ana Duvernay, Chloë Sevigny, Zoe Cassavetes, as well as Naomi Kawase and Dakota Fanning. In parallel to the women's collections, a men's line was also launched in 1999. An ode to fantasy aimed at young men. An adventure interrupted in 2008 after nearly ten years of success. In over twenty years of existence, the house Miu Miu continues to reign over the Fashion Sphere, signing now cult pieces such as the hobo bag with iconic quilted padding, patent leather ballet flats, the pleated mini-skirt in schoolgirl style, or the soft wool knit cardigan. The Italian brand thus embodies contemporary preppy style par excellence, offering an increasingly feminine wardrobe over the course of its collections.
