Stefano Pilati wants to transform social order with his label Random Identities, founded in 2017. Despite having a name that is renowned in the industry, he prefers to name his new project after some symbolic words: Random refers to the randomness of existence, and Identities is a response to that uncertainty. The logo is made up of signature white letters on a simple black label, representing a new beginning, a clean cut with the past. Thanks to the designer's experience that Random Identities is famous for its quality and cohesiveness.
Back in the '90s, Stefano Pilati joined Giorgio Armani as an assistant in its men's ready-to-wear department, then moved to fabric research and development at Prada. In 1998, he became an assistant stylist at Miu Miu, then head designer at Yves Saint Laurent under Tom Ford, before finally becoming creative director after Ford left in 2004. After eight years at the French design house, he was appointed creative director at Zegna, and then leaving in 2016.
Now based in Berlin, the Italian designer is inspired by the city's club culture, its raw authentic style and its contradictions between liberation, authority and transgression all in an enclosed space. The label is for all styles, genders, ages and body types, aimed at those who identify with personalities and recognise the beauty in diversity. Random Identities blurs the gender boundaries with its timeless and accessible 'seasonless' collections. The monochrome line includes silhouettes, tailored to perfection, duvet jackets, skirts made for layering, and unisex heeled boots. The men's white shirt with a bra print is a flagship piece and embodies its subversive character. Publicised exclusively on social media, the label can be found through alternative channels, bringing together the new generation of the digital era.
