Some books are for reading and others to showcase as decorative objects. The books published by Assouline fit within the second category. Both interesting and elegant, they are made for the contemporary library or your coffee table. Based on the notion that books purchased are rarely opened, the husband-and-wife duo Martine and Prosper Assouline sought to elevate their status to art objects. Their aim was to create a highly cultural luxury brand where form would be as important as substance. It was in 1995 that this former communications director of the Rochas house and this former artistic director at the head of her advertising agency joined forces to establish the house that bears their name. They publish between sixty and seventy beautiful books every year about fashion, design & architecture, art and travel. Richly illustrated, these "coffee table books" feature among major fashion houses Dior and Chanel, but also mainstream brands such as Mattel and Coca-Cola. Looking to expand, Assouline now offers stylish furniture and accessories also designed for decoration or to add the finishing touch to any library.
