      Lacoste
Its timeless style, comfort and casual elegance make it an icon of urban dressing. As the Lacoste brand best-seller, the polo shirt is today the French label's signature piece, upholding the art of chic sportswear since its creation. It all began in 1933 when, on retiring, the tennis legend, René Lacoste, established his self-titled brand. Inspired by polo players' shirts, he created his signature model: a short-sleeved jersey shirt, cut in a breathable, lightweight fabric, with a ribbed knit collar, enhancing the design and protecting players' necks from the sun. Its code name? The 12.12 polo. Its insignia? A green crocodile (René Lacoste's nickname) embroidered on the chest. A feature inversely proportional to its size that brings about a little revolution and presents the early stages of the logo. For the first time, an emblem to identify the brand was featured on the outside of the garment. Initially intended for athletes, the model quickly became popular with the public and the brand grew, becoming a sport wear reference for both men and women.
It wasn't until the arrival of Creative Directors, Christophe Lemaire and later, Felipe Oliveira Baptista, on the scene, that Lacoste was recognised as a sportswear brand and as a cutting-edge, fresh label, infusing contemporary style. Their successor in 2018 was British designer, Louise Trotter, who continues to cultivate this casual elegance today. After more than nine years as Creative Director of the English brand, Joseph, she offers a chic unisex wardrobe for Lacoste, consisting of slightly oversized garments, punctuated with leather touches.
