Some brands have a spectacular start, and that is precisely what happened to the eponymous label of Priya Ahluwalia. Launched in June 2018, following her obtaining an MA in Menswear from the University of Westminster (England), the brand quickly made a name for itself: just a few months later, in November, the designer won the 2019 edition of the H&M Award, a prize previously won by Minjukim and Richard Quinn. The following year was just as busy: a first show during Men's Fashion Week in Paris in January, another at Lagos Fashion Week in April, as well as a first London show organized with the support of NEWGEN, which supports local young designers. But 2020 would be even better: she won the LVMH Prize and continued her rise in the fashion microcosm. Increasingly renowned for her colorful style, which blends influences from her Indian and Nigerian roots with a childhood spent in South London, the designer established herself as one of the new names of her generation. And while the fashion world experienced a certain slowdown in 2021, it did not impact Priya Ahluwalia. In February, the designer won the Queen Elizabeth II Award for British Design, an award given by Queen Elizabeth II to young creators who advance the industry while having a societal impact. An award that was also given in 2018 to... Richard Quinn. But any comparison stops there. Last April, Priya Ahluwalia began a new chapter in the history of her house by imagining a first collection of women's ready-to-wear, in collaboration with the Danish brand Ganni. Talented and in good company.
