Totally unknown to the rest of the world just twenty years ago, Australian fashion has taken a prominent place on the international scene in the last ten years. A leader of this renewal from the land of kangaroos, Dion Lee, an Aussie designer who is slowly but surely carving out a prime spot in the fashion landscape. Following studies in acting and a stint at the Sydney Institute of Technology, the Sydneysider launched his eponymous brand at the age of 23. Fascinated by the construction of clothing, which he merges with traditional tailoring, Dion Lee provides a very particular aesthetic, both feminine and avant-garde, which quickly placed him in the category of designers to watch. In 2012, he distinguished himself by reaching the Australian final of the Woolmark Prize, which earned him a scholarship and mentorship. Used to working with wool (an important natural resource in Australia), he still regularly collaborates with the organization to work in the most transparent way possible and with the best suppliers from his homeland. After a stint in London, Dion Lee began presenting his collections in New York starting with the Spring-Summer 2014 season. A move that allowed him to further increase his popularity and ultimately made him the most famous Australian designer in recent years.
