Although it doesn't always make the headlines of style pages, the Georgian fashion scene is more vibrant than ever. Led a few years ago by a Demna Gvasalia still at the top of his game, it is also the homeland of Amy Smilovic (creator of the brand Tibi) as well as David Koma, who works under his eponymous label after a stint at Mugler a few seasons ago. Today, it's Lia Goglidze's turn to take the stage. The young woman is what one might commonly call a citizen of the world. Born in Tbilisi, Georgia, the future fashion designer grew up between Moscow and Vienna before moving to Florence to take courses at the Polimoda Institute. In the meantime, she continued her training in fashion design at the Istituto Europeo di Design in Milan before finishing with a bachelor's degree in art and marketing from Webster University in Vienna, from which she graduated in 2010. Four years later, she founded her first company, Inky Gold, a women's clothing brand that is still active today. In 2017, she launched LIYA, another label for women's clothing and accessories. The aesthetic of the LIYÀ brand is inspired by 1980s workwear, reworked to fit modern life. Designed to be worn daily, the pieces from the brand combine femininity and originality while remaining functional. Where trench coats are dressed with knitted sleeves, dresses are cut from soft faux leather, and the sleeves of shirts puff out to add volume to all looks. Slightly edgy, LIYÀ clothing is designed for women in search of a style that is uniquely theirs, definitely rooted in contemporary fashion. In addition to its ready-to-wear line, the brand is also known for its jewelry. Made of gold-plated brass, they are most often enhanced with pearls and/or hand-selected stones. The latter are generally chosen based on their brilliance or original shape. With the aim of letting them shine as much as possible, the designer constructs her jewelry based on their character and not the other way around.
