As the oldest French fashion house still in business, Lanvin truly encapsulates Parisian elegance. Founded in 1889, it remains the epitome of luxury and sophistication. Newly appointed Creative Director Bruno Sialelli has arrived to breathe new life into this century-old house that had been looking for a new designer following Alber Elbaz's departure in 2015. A Studio Berçot graduate, this 31-year-old from Marseille previously worked for Paco Rabanne, Acne Studios and Balenciaga before taking up the position of design director for Loewe's Menswear collections, under the direction of Jonathan Anderson. His varied and interesting career path led him to be appointed as head of the men's and women's collections at this iconic French label. As custodian of Jeanne Lanvin's legacy as an avant-garde designer and visionary businesswoman, Bruno Sialelli brings an exciting edge to the brand without ever undermining its poise or character.
As a tribute to the founder's passion for travel, for Spring-Summer 2020 the young designer presents a summery collection. Interspersed with prints linked to the maritime world, the pieces feature vibrant colours, fluctuating between refreshing blues and sunny yellows with delicate pinks bringing a warm and gentle touch. By reviving a rarely seen embroidery technique known as mukesh, which is produced by a team of Indian women, the designer takes us to a dream state, with flowing dresses featuring a Baigneurs motif, the pieces on the runway requiring no less than 15,000 hours of work. Leaving his Adventures of Babar theme from last year behind him, Bruno Sialelli is now interested in McCay's literary work, Little Nemo in Slumberland. His sailor t-shirts feature irregular stripes, creating an original revival, while jackets have rounded sleeves to provide a softer plumper silhouette for everyday wear. In other words, a more casual and less of a "big night out" collection, that definitively marks a new era for the fashion house.
