Between the Jordaan loafers, Horsebit bags, Ace sneakers, and cardigans adorned with the iconic Web band, Gucci's androgynous pieces are legion. The fondness for unisex garb can be traced back to the Italian label's beginnings, namely in Florence in 1921. Guccio Gucci set out to create a brand bearing his own name, inspired by his years as a doorman at London's Savoy Hotel. The central offer? Leather goods and equestrian-inspired accessories, embellished with the metal Horsebit that still survives today as testament to the house's rich heritage. Following the development of new accessories following the Second World War, men's and women's wear became more distinct, separated into their own respective collections. It was with Alessandro Michele's arrival as Creative Director that all of this began to change anew. Having already worked in-house for twelve years, the under-the-radar creative succeeded Frida Gianini in 2015 and began to apply his vision to the brand. Under his direction, the Gucci look has gone gender-free, carried by a 70s current and an androgynous touch that are nothing if not of-the-moment. Revisiting the Florentine label's most emblematic symbols, from the Flora print to the GG motif, the Roman house breathes new life into its creations as they balance between history and modernity. A mark of freedom, today's collections are imagined for a diverse public, of all ages and horizons.> View more
