Certain icons transcend time. Norma Jean Mortenson, alias Marilyn Monroe, is one of them. Glamour icon, she left her mark and continues to inspire a lot of reflection. Netflix just released Blonde, a long feature film that rides the line between biopic and romance, with the sublime Ana de Armas in the title role. It's the perfect opportunity for Printemps to admire certain absolutely mythical looks of the woman who lit up Hollywood in the 50s.

Marilyn Monroe is grace; she is a wispy white dress that blows in a deceptively ingenious way above a subway grate; she is a mythical platinum blonde, a red mouth and a voluptuous body that soars! It's difficult to deny the evidence: Marilyn Monroe is an icon of the 50s who has transcended time, remaining, still today, a reference of glamour and style.

Available since September 28th on Netflix, Blonde features this legendary pin-up in a biopic-romance hybrid. Embodied onscreen by Ana de Armas (notable from her role in Denis Villeneuve's Blade Runner 2049), Marylin Monroe's real life was not at all just sequins and success. Her darkest hours are explored in this Andrew Dominik film, but so are her brightest moments.

Before Blonde the film, there was the book by the same name written by Joyce Carol Oates. It was in fact this novel, which took liberal inspiration from Marylin Monroe's life, that was the starting point for this Netflix film.

Under the direction of Andrew Dominik, the life of this mythical actress from the 1950s is explored in a raw, vivid way, without ambiguities, with snippets of both truth and illusion. From her difficult relationship with her mother to her troubled romances, the life of Marilyn Monroe unfolds in a vibrant fresco, in an unfiltered way, which is sometimes hard to watch. Bouncing between black and white and full colour, between blurriness and perfect clarity, Blonde offers viewers a turbulent, striking deep dive into the psyche of this icon. Between Marilyn Monroe and Norma Jean Baker, there's just a single step...sort of. Identity is notably at the heart of the film, in the same way that it was a central question in Marylin's life, lost between a violent mother and an absent father. The Netflix film isn't for everyone; its 2 hours and 45 minutes are punctuated by polished photography that offers Ana de Armas a nice platform to show the extent of her beauty and talent in an impressive performance.

A recap of certain looks that mark the story of Marilyn Monroe!

Sleeveless, tailored and boatneck, this floral print dress is one of the costumes Marylin wears in Something's Got to Give. This feature film marks a sad moment in her story as it remained unfinished due to her many absences and eventual tragic death.

Among Marilyn's mythical looks, the white ankle trouser and black turtleneck combo is a classic! The outfit is both casual and chic. It's all about the materials which create a deceptively relaxed look, accentuated by sling-back ballet flats.

1955. The film The Seven Year Itch shows off Marilyn as more glamorous than ever. It shows a truly iconic Marilyn who will forever mark the collective imagination with the absolutely mythical scene where her white Travilla dress blows up above a subway grate. The scene seen around the world crystallised the legendary image of this woman who, uncontestably, left an impression on Hollywood.
