CAMILLE FOURNET

The story of this famous French leather goods designer began in 1945 where the brand's exceptional craftsmanship began in a little workshop in the village of Saint-Quentin. In the heart of Picardy, the saddler Camille Fournet began producing belts, leather bracelets and custom small leather goods. Popular among collectors, his watch straps quickly gained recognition, eventually coming to the attention of the most influential watchmakers in France and in the world, who were drawn to the exceptional quality of materials and finishes. In 1994, after a difficult period, the Maison was taken over by the Déchery couple with the aim of restoring it to its former glory...and it worked. In 2006, the first of their small leather goods designs were unveiled. Having always taken a gamble by remaining independent and maintaining a Made in France policy, the brand relied on decades of expertise to produce a new range of accessories that bridge the avant-garde of contemporary design and the tradition of timeless leather creations. In 2013, the brand bought the glove designer Lavabre Cadet, another way to promote luxury French goods. Three years later, in 2016, Claire Aubadie-Ladrix joined the brand, a graduate from the École Boulle and ENSCI-Les Ateliers. The free-spirited young artistic director views her creations as architectural concepts and views an object by its practical use rather than its appearance, perspective or decorative features. Inspired by reality, her luxurious leather bags challenge the boundaries between contemporary and tradition, where design meets practicality. Designed for everyday use, some of the items are modular, featuring adjustable shoulder straps and other convertible elements, using a clever system that turns a handbag into a rucksack. Others are simply ingenious, such as the clasps on a leather bag being replaced with a flap. Always keen to support new creative talent, the Maison also took on two new designers in 2018: Chloé Maillot (trained at ENSCI-Les Ateliers) and Guillaume Renaudin (who studied at the École cantonale d'art de Lausanne).
