There's something unforgettable about Nicholas Kirkwood, a one-of-a-kind shoemaker. His treasure trove of shoes isn't just made from leather and tulle; his signature material is pearls. The jewelled ornaments can be seen adorning all the German shoemaker's designs, so it is no coincidence that Kirkwood began his career making another luxury accessory: hats. And not just any hats. Studying at Central Saint Martins (London) from 1998, Nicholas Kirkwood met Philip Treacy, a mad hatter whose talent was only matched by his eccentricity. For five years, the future king of shoes learned about the design business. Seeing Philip Treacy's clients gave him another idea: while they were beautifully dressed and had the most gorgeous handbags to match, their shoes missed that ideal finishing touch. Returning to his studies, Nicholas Kirkwoord enrolled at Cordwainers College, a specialist shoemaking school in London.
He founded his eponymous brand after graduating in 2005. Far from keeping the spotlight to himself, he presented his well-established aesthetic on the podiums of the biggest design houses, and soon gained a loyal clientele in love with his daring and comfortable designs. Inspired by architecture, considering the latest trends but also his loyal fans, the designer creates chic and irreverent models each season. The twisted classics with a hint of extravagance are sure to upgrade any outfit. In addition to his iconic Beya flats, Nicholas Kirkwood is also famous for his Casati line, with heels completely covered in pearls, along with the D'Arcy, Miri and the incredible Jazzelle heels.
