For over 20 years, fashion designer Thierry Mugler has been shaping the image of a powerful woman with an assertive style through its structured cut, fitted waist and accentuated shoulder designs. The eponymous brand, Mugler, founded in 1973, celebrates the female form with a touch of masculinity. Sensual and precise, mythical and austere, the designer loves playing around with dress codes. A visionary artist inspired by architecture, art and culture, he offers a futuristic and offbeat style concept. Combining innovative materials (leather, metal and vinyl), bold designs and asymmetrical cuts, nothing is left to chance in producing this unique world that rests somewhere between fantasy and reality. Creative Director of the brand since 2017, Casey Cadwallader is today's custodian of Mugler design. Previously with Marc Jacobs, Acne and Loewe, he carries on the founder's forward-thinking spirit by experimenting with materials and artistic lines. Bodies are moulded into bustiers, bodysuits and cycling shorts with mildly oversized tailoring and latex is employed, featuring a print motif.
To hide or to expose? This is the question Thierry Mugler's Spring-Summer 2020 runway show poses. Worn by an inclusive cast bringing together models of all ages, all genres and all sizes, the latest collection created by Casey Cadwallader has a free and uninhibited identity that sets itself apart. Master in the art of sculpting an hourglass figure, the designer brings his personal touch to two of the design house's signature features: the 'power suit', a suit with epaulettes, and then, lingerie. Reinterpreted as a model halfway between sportswear and underwear with fitted shorts in technical fabrics alongside corsets and piped hemstitching. The designer draws on the brand's archives offering new pieces with neon-coloured glove dresses and jeans, featuring inserts to highlight the crotch. To sum up, Thierry Mugler brings us a great season, imprinted with sensuality.
