Carcel's second commitment is eco-responsible production run entirely in-house to better manage stocks in real time, avoid a build-up of unsold stock and minimise its carbon footprint. This desire led the two founders to strategically select prisons with whom to collaborate. A high level of crime and a wealth of sustainable materials prompted the duo to choose Peru, more specifically the central prison in Cusco where production mainly revolves around alpaca wool. This first location was then followed by a second in Chiang Mai, Thailand, to produce silk garments. Within these walls is where the magic happens. Each Carcel piece is embroidered with the name of the craftswoman who makes it, a detail which may seem trivial but nevertheless has a special meaning. Carcel collections are timeless, non-seasonal and are made from natural fabrics.
