Un sultan avait une fille nommée Nélya, une jeune femme généreuse et passionnée qu'il aimait tendrement. Pour lui rendre hommage, il a voulu trouver la plus belle rose sur terre. Un jour, un jeune berger lui a apporté une rose de Turquie, et sa recherche a pris fin. Cette fleur représentait la perfection que le sultan chérissait chez sa fille: la grâce, le rayonnement, la fraîcheuret la fougue. Pour le remercier, il couvrit le berger d'or et donna le nom de sa fille à la rose.
