In the same way a fashion designer sketches a creation or a musician writes a score, Francis Kurkdjian enjoys blending aromas and ingredients in meticulously considered proportions to deliver his exclusive range of fragrances, a craft he first discovered at fifteen. Of Armenian descent, Francis Kurkdjian grew up in the Parisian suburbs and thrived in the performing arts, taking piano and classical ballet lessons. These disciplines instilled in him perseverance and a sense of determination. In 1990, the designer attended the international perfumery school, ISIPCA, in Versailles and at the same time undertook a Bachelor's degree at the Institut Supérieur de Marketing du Luxe. On graduating, he met Chantal Roos who invited him to work on a brief for Jean Paul Gaultier's first fragrance for men. This is how, in 1993, Francis Kurkdjian created "le Mâle", swiftly taking his career to the next level. He then headed to New York and joined the team at Quest International where he stayed until 1999. On returning to Paris in 2001, he opened his bespoke fragrance workshop and in the same year received the Prix François Coty for his perfumery creations. After many collaborations and creative projects, in 2008, he was awarded the Cosmétique Magazine Oscar for Best Perfumer, reaching the prestigious rank of Chevaliers des Arts et des Lettres. Following this rise to fame, Francis Kurkdjian co-founded Maison Francis Kurkdjian with his partner Marc Chaya in 2009. This creative duo with highly complementary skills has made the brand a leading reference in the world of perfumery, thanks to their poetic approach and outstanding expertise, perfected over nearly a decade. Francis Kurkdjian draws on the past, reinterpreting traditional codes with a bold and innovative flair. As a result, new segments have been added to the label's core business such as home fragrances, concentrated detergents and fabric softeners.
