Some destinies appear to be already written. This was the case for Frédéric Malle. As the nephew of filmmaker Louis Malle and grandson of Serge Heftler-Louiche, the founder of Christian Dior Perfumes, he grew up in Paris surrounded by culture. His mother, a former Art Director at Christian Dior Perfumes, also contributed to passing on her passion for fragrances. At the age of 20, he flew to the United States, where he studied Art History at New York University. Six years later, in 1988, he joined Roure Bertrand Dupont, where he worked alongside the most contemporary perfumers of the time. By 1994, he worked as a consultant for a number of different labels. From Christian Lacroix, Chaumet to Hermès, he took on the role of Creative and Marketing Director, liaising between the noses and the fashion houses. A role he carried out without a glitch due to his extensive knowledge of the subject. From creation to composition, packaging and marketing, Frédéric Malle mastered all the stages in fragrance production. A time that prepared him for his next adventure, one that would earn him public recognition: Les Éditions de Parfums. Disenchanted with the system of large-scale perfume distribution with products designed to appeal to the masses, in 2000 he set up his company, with the aim of putting personalised products back at the heart of the business. The concept was simple. Similar to a publishing house, Les Éditions de Parfums brings together noses from all over the world, giving them the opportunity to produce their own exclusive creations. From the initial concept through to the finished product, each one is guided to ensure the best possible fragrance is created. The result?
