While the high waist has been the go-to for fashion enthusiasts for the past several years, the low waist is back. The 2000s, an era embodied by Paris Hilton, is making a real comeback, as seen on many runways. From Alexander McQueen to Isabel Marant, from Rick Owens to Givenchy, major names in fashion have agreed on giving this Y2K trend another chance, both in womenswear and menswear.
It's a trend that exists for all kinds of trousers: denim, baggy, leather, as well as for skirts. That means that now's the time to find THE version that works best for you.

THE ART OF GOING LOW-SLUNG, À LA Y2K
Embodied by Paris Hilton, ultra-popular it-girl and star of The Simple Life, or Britney Spears or even Rihanna, the low-waist trend, also known as sagging praises the merits of a flat stomach, and a low waistline, one that hits right at the hips.
Sagging also implies letting one's undergarments make an appearance. It's a style inspired by American prisoners who are required to wear their trousers without belts. Upon leaving prison, they would take on the habit of wearing their trousers low, undergarments exposed, to better recognise one another out in the world.
In the 1990s, rappers began to adopt this look as did various fashion muses, anchoring the practice in the pantheon of early 2000s trends.

Even if the look seems masculine, the trend has also seduced women. Many have adapted the look in their own way, exposing thongs, string bikinis or bodysuits with sexy cutouts. These are all ways of revealing increasingly more skin, whether in a very obvious or more subtle way.
Also seen at Ludovic de Saint Sernin and Miu Miu, the low-waist trend pairs well with transparent details. In this way, there's a suggestion of skin, hidden behind see-through fabrics. The two brands play with this suggestion of skin, opting for tones that blend with the skin of their models. It's a way of dressing to reveal just a little.
