The extraordinary history of Cire Trudon brings us back to the Paris of 1643. Claude Trudon, grocer and candle-maker, sets up his boutique on Rue Saint-Honoré, where he begins to make candles for the home and votives for local churches and cathedrals. The shop quickly became a success story and was later inherited by his son Jacques, who would go on to become the court apothecary for Queen Maria Theresa of Austria. At the start of the 18th century, the label would adopt the slogan "Deo, Regique Laborant," which in Latin means "bees work for God and the King" — a nod to the important little workers essential to the craft of candle-making. In 1737, Trudon would acquire the Royal Wax Manufacturer located in Antony, just outside Paris, and under Louis XV would become the official supplier of the French monarchy and the country's most important religious institutions. Napoleon would welcome the birth of his son Aiglon with a single gift: a Trudon candle adorned with three pieces of gold emblazoned with the Emporer's image. Neither the French revolution nor the arrival of electricity in the household managed to dethrone the brand, whose flame burns ever brighter across time and history. In 1889, the label would be awarded a gold medal at the Universal Exhibition in Paris thanks to the quality and innovation of its products. The secret? Traditional craftsmanship melded with modern technology, allowing for optimal burn-time and perfume sillage. Re-named Cire Trudon in 2007, the house has remained a major actor in the art of candle-making for over four centuries thanks to its high standards and artisanship. Whether it's the use of plant waxes entirely free of chemical products, braided cotton wicks adapted to their respective scents, or the thick glass vessels sporting the signature beehive symbol, each piece is truly a work of art. Perfect for our upgraded lifestyles and self-care regimes, Cire Trudon delivers a unique sensory experience in total respect for our health. > View more
