From blankets unearthed in an attic, sheets spotted in a thrift shop and fabrics picked up while travelling, Emily Bode cultivated a taste for unique textiles. Her passion stemmed from her family, who notably created and decorated wagons for the Barnum circus. As a child, Emily Bode spent her time visiting antique markets, awakening her passion for the past. When she launched her self-named Ready-to-Wear label for men in 2016, it was only natural that her collection incorporated old tablecloths, Victorian linen and grain sacks into the designs. Her favourite fabric was quilting, which she sewed using traditional techniques and then revamped by transforming it into ultra-contemporary coats. A finalist in the LVMH 2019 awards and winner of the CFDA Emerging Designer Award less than a year after launching her brand, Emily Bode became the first woman to present a collection at Men's Fashion Week in New York. A flashing rise for this Atlanta-born designer who is passionate about style philosophy and takes a resolutely slow approach to fashion. Trained at Parsons School of Design in New York and then at Eugene Lang University (also in New York), she holds a BA in Fine Arts and Literature, specialising in Men's Fashion and Philosophy. After a varied experience gained at large fashion houses such as Ralph Lauren and Marc Jacobs, the designer launched her solo career.
Each piece is a mix of rare antique textiles and patchworks of retro prints, all made by hand using traditional craftsmanship, providing an authentic original quality. Emily Bode's creations, using prints of yesteryear, are no less contemporary in style. The designer updates crochet shirts, gauze tops and patchwork suits with streetwear touches.> View more
