3 Environmental Podcasts To Tune Into Right Now

NEWS | May 5, 2020
Whether they're highlighting exciting new initiatives, offering precious advice for cultivating your home garden, or teaching us about the social implications of climate change, environmental podcasts are a must these days. Here are three of our favorites.

The Crowd-Pleaser: "Basilic" ("Basil")

Launched in November 2017 by Jeane Clesse, an environmental lawyer, this podcast is dedicated to the most promising new climate projects. "From the biological to the ecological, from zero waste to upcycling, from volunteers to entrepreneurs," eco-conscious friends of the pod stop by each week to discuss the climate. Among them: Laëtitia Van de Walle, founder of the brand Lamazuna, famous for bringing us re-usable makeup wipes; Pierre-Antoine Guibout, director of the "Sargasse Project," based out of Saint-Barthélémy, transforming invasive algae into paper; even Raphaël de Ry, founder of Hong Kong's first bulk store, "Edgar." Featuring around fifty episodes, "Basilic" also tackles subjects like marine conservation, naturopathy, and even ethical jewelry. And this past spring, sustainable fashion was the subject of the day!

The intellectual one: "De cause à effets" ("From cause to effects")

Hosted weekly on France Culture by Aurélie Luneau, "De cause à effets" is something of an "environmental magazine." With its noteworthy guests such as former Climate Minister Nicolas Hulot, astrophysical and ecologist Hubert Reeves, biologist Gilles Bœf, and other lauded scholars, scientists, and even philosophers, each hour-long episode is linked to one of many environmental questions. It provides a great opportunity to learn more about responsible farming and consumption, plastic pollution, deforestation, and even eco-friendly urbanism. Approaching ecology through the lenses of economy and politics, "De cause à effets" gives listeners birds-eye-views on issues like pollution and global warming, offering new solutions in response.

The fun one: "Bons Plants" ("Good Plants")

With a new episode "for urban gardeners" available every two weeks, "Bons Plants" brings listeners the best tips for cultivating their home gardens. The perfect podcast for all levels, it's filled with DIY tips and gardening advice, from how to grow your own vegetables to home composting. Created by Alexandre Brachet and hosted by journalist Thibaut Schepman, the duo reminds us of the simple joys of nature and the perks of taking care of our leafy friends, especially in urban settings. Subscribers will also receive a newsletter along with the episodes, bursting with info on organic food, the impact of meat and livestock on the environment, the essential role of bees, and the numerous healing powers of plants.
