Vitra was founded in 1953, following Willi Fehlbaum's discovery of Charles and Ray Eames' chairs in a New York shop window. A true artistic crush, leading him to become a furniture designer and laying the foundations of the German brand. Following his encounter with the couple, as early as 1957, the company produced and distributed the duo's collections. Over time, relationships with other designers were also forged, making up the brand's current well-stocked and eclectic portfolio. With its wealth of experience, the latter puts its technical know-how at the service of their creativity, continuing to push the limits of design ever further. The brand does not stray, nevertheless, from its basics: loyal to the codes and creations of the greatest artists, it maintains their worlds and legacies alive by continuing the production of their most famous designs. In addition to offering furniture and interior design objects for clients, Vitra also provides services of space planning to professionals, such as the organization of offices, hotels or museums, as well as public spaces and airport lobbies. To shed further light on design and its private collections, Vitra also imagined the Vitra Design Museum. A building designed by Franck Gehry and located on the grounds of the Vitra Campus, an ultra-complete complex in Germany. Following a fire that destroyed most of the brand's factories at the beginning of the 1980s, Vitra called on the most renowned architects to rebuild a logistics site including a flagship and factories, as well as an immense park where works by Tadao Ando, Zaha Hadid, Herzog & de Meuron and Álvaro are displayed.
