Showing off the feminine form. That's what the French designer, Roland Mouret, renowned for his iconic fitted dresses, has been doing for years. Like a second skin, his geometric and graphic creations are designed to perfectly skim the silhouette. The glamorous tailored designs have attracted some of the world's biggest celebrities, including Dita Von Teese, Scarlett Johansson and Nicole Kidman, who have helped establish them as a red-carpet staple. The iconic Galaxy dress is ultra-fitted, sensual, and wins everyone's vote for its flattering lines. No one could have predicted that Roland Mouret, a child from the South West of France would become a stylist. The son of a butcher, he realised his calling while folding, refolding and draping his father's white aprons as a child. At 18, he moved to Paris to study at Studio Berçot, but he ultimately earned his living as a model, being spotted in the street by Jean-Paul Gaultier. After modelling for Yohji Yamamoto and Azzedine Alaïa, he was drawn to London's frenetic fashion scene and took the plunge alone, organising his first fashion show in London in 1998. Now featured in every season of London Fashion Week, Roland Mouret's creations stand out for their vibrant colours, refined features and retro-inspired, yet definitively modern, architectural silhouettes.
For the Spring-Summer 2020 season, the designer is introducing a less defined style, a new era where fitted cuts make way for a fluid but equally sophisticated collection and where trousers finally take centre stage. Tops with deep necklines, flowing midi dresses, skirts, and jackets with slit sleeves. Every piece seems to be ingeniously thought out, combining beauty with comfort to produce a practical style.> View more
