For Alejandro Gómez Palomo, fashion is a form of expression, passion and beauty, and certainly not a matter of gender. This is an ideology that he embodies in his label Palomo Spain, founded in 2015. An only child, he grew up in a village near Cordoba in Spain, surrounded by supportive parents who invested all their savings into the launch of his label. His first memories of fashion were at the age of seven, when he admiringly watched the Yves Saint-Laurent and John Galliano fashion shows for Dior on television. In fact, Galliano's Flamenco collection inspired him so much that he dressed his Barbies in scraps of curtain to recreate the look! His fate was sealed, so at the age of eighteen Alejandro Gómez Palomo left his native Spain to study at the London College of Fashion. His end-of-year project, Je t'aime moi non plus, introduced his unique vision to the world. February 2016 marked the launch of Palomo Spain, with a debut collection inspired by Virginia Woolf's Orlando, a character who changes sex and lives for 300 years. Quickly scouted by Carine Roitfeld, in 2017 he was the first Spanish designer to become an LVMH finalist. The same year, the brand was thrown into the spotlight when Beyoncé posted a photo of herself and her newborn twins on Instagram, draped in a mauve Palomo Spain dress. Rita Ora, Miley Cyrus, Pedro Almodovar and Harry Styles also became big fans of the label. Elevated by this success, Alejandro Gómez Palomo remains focused on his objective: to break down barriers between gendered clothing and overturn the social constructs, he deems archaic.
